The problem

An export is not the same as getting it back.

The others have interfaces too: you can reach your pages, and an assistant can even write into them. What comes out, though, is a translation — the page itself sits in a house format, and what your AI reads is a view of it. Whatever does not fit that view is missing; whatever is written back has to be translated in again. Basalt drops the intermediate step: Markdown is not the view, it is the storage. Each fact sits in exactly one place and appears wherever else it belongs.

    Others hand an AI a Markdown view of their own format — the view is never what gets stored. Here Markdown is what gets stored: what an assistant reads is the document, and what it writes back arrives whole. The round trip is checked before every release.

    Write it once, use it everywhere

    A fact lives in exactly one block. Put that block on any other page: change it there, and every page showing it is current. No copy-paste, no two versions of the same policy.

    Typed databases and views

    Projects, customers, decisions: rows are pages, so one page can sit in several databases at once. Fields are defined once for the whole workspace, not per table.

  • Together

    Everyone in the same document

    Real-time editing with visible cursors, comments and permissions per space and page. Two people in one paragraph is a normal Tuesday, not a conflict to resolve.

  • Speed

    Fast enough that people use it

    Opening a page, typing, searching: each is measured against a fixed budget before a release ships. A knowledge base nobody waits for is a knowledge base nobody fills.

  • Moving in

    Bring what you already wrote

    Import from Notion and from Obsidian vaults, including databases and links. Leaving works the same way, which is the point: your pages walk out as Markdown whenever you want them to.

The same page, as text.

Markdown here is neither an export nor a view: it is the form the page is stored in. An assistant reads the document itself — headings, tasks, field values, references — and writes into it. There is no intermediate format for anything to get stuck in, and nothing stays behind when you leave.

Your content sits in a German data centre — not in a US cloud wearing a European label. The data processing agreement belongs to the plan, not to the invoice, and what your team writes does not leave your workspace unless you say so.
